Walking the labyrinth is an active prayer form of meditation that can give insight and guidance for life’s challenges, help solve a problem, stir creativity, bring solace to those in sorrow, peace to the chaos of life, and provide an opportunity to recognize and give thanks for our blessings. Come join us on a labyrinth walk.

Lighthouse Cruise Aboard The Vista Jubilee

Posted in Fundraising at 11:05 pm

On Saturday, October 13, twelve church members and two guests met at Newport Cruise Company’s Warren headquarters, boarding the Vista Jubilee for a water tour of most of the lighthouses on Narragansett Bay. The sun was bright and the air crisp – a beautiful day for our cruise.

We departed promptly at 11:00am and followed the winding channel from Warren to the open water of the Bay, turning toward Providence. Here our tour guide pointed out the first lighthouses – Nayatt Point Light and Conimicut Light in Barrington. Then we turned around and headed for Warwick Point Light and down the west passage of Narragansett Bay and past Quonset Point. Along the way, we were treated to a very nice buffet luncheon, while our ship continued on to Jamestown Bridge where we saw Plum Beach Light in North Kingstown and Dutch Island Light near Jamestown.  Reversing course, we passed Conanicut Light in Jamestown.  We had to detour around a sail boat race and pick up the east channel, continuing south under the Newport Bridge and by Fort Adams.

As we headed toward open water at the entrance of the Bay, we caught sight of Beavertail Light in Jamestown, as well as Castle Hill Light in Newport.  We turned around and headed back up the Bay viewing Ida Lewis Light in Newport.  Goat Island Light in Newport came next and then Rose Island Light in Newport Harbor.  We were told that dates are available for anyone to sign on as lighthouse keeper there for a period of time.  You pay for your board and are given a list of chores to do!

We passed Sandy Point Light on Prudence Island and headed for Mount Hope Bridge.  Along the way we went by Hog Island Shoal Light and then Bristol Ferry Light.  Having seen most of the lighthouses that are visible from the Bay, we headed back to port, as it was nearly 4:00pm!

We arrived at port with everyone in our group saying they had a great time and would like to do it again!  We are only sorry that more of you could not join us for this fun day.  We missed you and hope to see you at one of the upcoming fundraising events.

Cottage Meetings Being Formed

Posted in Church Council at 10:49 pm

In July, the Council formed a Long Range Planning Steering Committee as a first step in developing a Long Range Plan for our congregation. This committee will be gathering data from members of the congregation over the next few months. This will occur during cottage meetings in members’ homes. The meetings, designed to last less than two hours, will be led by a trained team from the Long Range Planning Steering Committee. Each team has specific questions about your perceptions of our community of faith. When these meetings are concluded, the results will be presented to the Church Council for further action and discussion, including developing a Long Range Plan (3-5 years) for our church. If you would like to host a meeting, please contact the church office. And, when you are called to attend a meeting, please make every effort to put it on your busy schedule. The meetings will begin sometime in November with a goal to conclude them by the end of January.

The members of the Long Range Planning Steering Committee are:

Dave Freeman, Jen Johnson, Pastor Randall, Helen Sousa, Doug Hixon, and Pastor Aberg
