22nd Annual Christmas Cookie Walk  Dec14, 2013, 10am – 12noon

What is a Christmas Cookie Walk?

While many have experienced our Christmas Cookie Walk, others may not be sure what it is and how it works.  This is a fund raiser where we sell homemade cookies, fudge and candies by the pound.  We ask that our church members and friends to bake 2 or 3 batches of one of their favorite Christmas cookie (about 10 dozen) to donate for the walk.  We line tables up in the DeWolf with the large platters and boxes of cookies, etc. that are donated.  Then… buyers have the choice of a large or small box (or even a decorative holiday tin) to fill up with their choice of cookies as they walk down the row of tables of the assortment of cookies and more!  Their box is weighed and paid for!   In one of our best years, we earned a little over $1500 and sold out of cookies in less than two hours.  What a great way to get a huge variety of holiday cookies without baking so many different kinds!

This event is only successful because of all our bakers (you!) who spend the time to bake the cookies!!  This is just a small way to give back to the church!  Nights before the walk, we are even in the church kitchen baking sheets of cookies all at once in our wonderful large convection oven!

There is a sign-up sheet in the DeWolf room to let us know you will be baking and the kind of cookie you’d like to make.  I’ll have copies of cookie recipes if you need any ideas!  This way we can see what cookies have or have not been selected for cooking.  The more variety, the better the sales!!

You can also help to get the word out.  Flyers are available that can be posted all about town, at your place of business, or anywhere that others will see!  Below is another recipe for your files!!

Magic Mint Chocolate Bark

 Ingredients:

1 2/3 cups (10oz. pkg) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Dark Chocolate & Mint Morsels

1/3 cup coarsely chopped roasted or toasted almonds

 

Directions:

     PREHEAT oven to 325° F. Line small baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
     POUR morsels onto prepared baking sheet. Arrange morsels so they are touching each other in a single layer (roughly an 11 x 9-inch rectangle).
    BAKE for 1 to 3 minutes or until morsels are shiny. Morsels will retain their shape. Remove from oven to wire rack. With tip of butter knife or wooden pick, immediately swirl morsels to create a swirled pattern.
     SPRINKLE with nuts. Hold baking sheet 3 inches above counter and drop to settle nuts into melted morsels. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Break into pieces. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.
