The CE Committee will be putting on a Carnival May 16, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m, rain or shine. We will need a lot of help with the games and booths to make it successful. If you are willing to help, please contact Jamie Caromile or Helen Sousa, or sign-up in the DeWolf room.
What a wonderful night tonight. As I looked around the room I saw a great inter-generational mix of people. We think we broke a record for attendance! So many children were having fun, playing various “made up” games and enjoying the company of all of us linked to them by baptism—–by sacred covenant.
I saw Rev. Mary Aberg quietly going from place to place, person to person, checking in. I saw all those folks in the kitchen, serving others as Christ called us to do. (Helen, CE and their helpers- thank you so very much for this ministry) This kind of education is unique and vitally important for our young people. Where else in our society can you see such an example of caring and joy? I listened to your hopes, dreams, fears and struggles tonight as we prepare for the Lenten season. You shared your jokes and you cleared our tables. You ate pancakes and you asked about feeding the hungry. I heard the yearnings of a people of great faith, who love each other and want to work for justice and peace in our town and world. You brought friends and made new friends.
First Congregational Church, let the Spirit of the Living God enfold you now – as we enter Lent. Let God lead you, teach you, love you and give you hope.
Thanks for a wonderful evening of Christian community!
Blessings aye,
Pastor Dan
The Christian Ed Committee will be hosting a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, February 24 at 6 p.m. If you are planning to attend, please sign-up in the DeWolf room or contact Helen Sousa (253-8012). A free-will offering will be taken to offset the cost of the food.
On Sunday, February 24, Helen Sousa will begin a basic Bible study, called “Stepping Stonesâ€, for the youth of our church, grades 3 and up. In this class the children will become familiar with 12 bible verses, stories and elements of worship. Each child will be able to “earn†a stone for each lesson learned. This study will also be held on March 2 and March 30, after church school. Please see me to sign up and for more details. I need to purchase supplies for this class, so sign up is necessary.
The Christian Education Committee will be sponsoring a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, February 5, 6-7:30 p.m. in the DeWolf Room. If you will be attending, please sign-up on the DeWolf room bulletin board or call the Christian Ed director so we know how much food to make. A free-will offering will be taken.
This past Sunday the children celebrated with a birthday party for Jesus. Fun was had by all, as you can clearly see in these photos.
We are continuing to collect items for our basket of warmth. Please bring in new hats, scarves, mittens and gloves for women and children. All donations are going to the Women’s Resource Cednter so that we may provide warmth to those in need this winter. The 3rd and 4th grade classes, along with help from the kindergarten and 7th and 8th grade classes, have made two fleece blankets for the Center. our kids are learning first hand what it means to give to others! We will continue to collect these items through February.
The Christian Education Committee will coordinate the “Giving Tree” program to aid some of the needy families in our area. In the DeWolf room a tree decorated with gift tags will allow church members to help make Christmas special for local families in need. Each tag will have a family number and person for whom the figt item is to be purchased. Please take as many tags as you wish and purchase the item(s) asked for. We will present the gifts in church on Sunday, December 16th. All gifts must be UNWRAPPED and labeled with gift tag(s) attached. Wrapping paper is also needed so that the family mnay wrap their own presents.
We’ve posted some pictures of our recent Halloween party in the photo gallery. If you have more pictures from the event you would like us to post, please send them to the webmaster.
