Humanity is endlessly fascinated with certain fundamental questions. And perhaps its by struggling with the mystery of these questions that we shape a life that becomes part of the answer. This Lent lets live with those questions as we journey toward the answer that is Easter.
The 30 Minute Bible Study will address the 4 Eternal Questions of our faith. All studies will meet right after the main service on Sunday in our beautiful sanctuary. No homework needed. Come as you are!
March 7 – DOES GOD EXIST?
March 14 - WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE?
March 21 – IS THERE LIFE AFTER DEATH?
March 28 – WHY DO BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE?

Verse of the Day:
Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets
who lead my people astray, who cry “Peace”
when they have something to eat,
but declare war against those
who put nothing into their mouths.
Therefore it shall be night to you, without vision,
and darkness to you, without revelation.
The sun shall go down upon the prophets,
and the day shall be black over them;
the seers shall be disgraced,
and the diviners put to shame;
they shall all cover their lips,
for there is no answer from God.
- Micah 3:5-7
Voice of the Day:
The single clenched fist
lifted and ready,
Or the open asking hand
held out and waiting.
Choose: For we meet
by one or the other.
- Carl Sandburg,
“Choose,” from Chicago Poems.

Verse of the Day:
Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms by injustice; who makes his neighbors work for nothing, and does not give them their wages; who says, “I will build myself a spacious house with large upper rooms,” and who cuts out windows for it, paneling it with cedar, and painting it with vermilion. Are you a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know me? says the Lord.
- Jeremiah 22:13-16
Voice of the Day:
When people care for you and cry for you, they can straighten out your soul.
- Langston Hughes, from his short story “Last Whipping”

Verse of the Day:
Let the oppressed see it and be glad;
you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
For the Lord hears the needy,
and does not despise his own that are in bonds.
Let heaven and earth praise him,
the seas and everything that moves in them.
- Psalm 69:32-34
Voice of the Day:
One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one.

Verse of the Day:
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people.
- Acts 2:42-47
Voice of the Day:
Renewal does not come before mission, but in mission.
- Mortimer Arias, Protestant church worker in Bolivia

Verse of the Day:
Those of low estate are but a breath,
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
Put no confidence in extortion,
and set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
- Psalm 62:9-12
Voice of the Day:
To take usury for money lent is unjust in itself, because this is to sell what does not exist, and this evidently leads to inequality, which is contrary to justice.
- Thomas Aquinas, Dominican friar and theologian (1225-1274).

Verse of the Day:
Do not let my treacherous enemies rejoice over me,
or those who hate me without cause wink the eye.
For they do not speak peace,
but they conceive deceitful words
against those who are quiet in the land.
- Psalm 35:19-20
Voice of the Day:
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Verse of the Day:
For the hurt of my poor people I am hurt, I mourn, and dismay has taken hold of me. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of my poor people not been restored?
- Jeremiah 8:21-22
Voice of the Day:
Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning.
- Frederick Douglass,
from his speech celebrating West India Emancipation Day (August, 1857)
