Since 2014, First Congregational Church in Bristol, R.I. has sponsored an annual Alternative Christmas Giving Event each December.  The purpose of this event is to support partners in ministry who serve the community in specific ways that the church is unable to do by itself, and to give church members and neighborhood friends the opportunity to channel holiday gift giving in ways that benefit selected service organizations.  It is an ALTERNATIVE to giving loved ones more things that they may not need or want, and it is also an opportunity to make memorial contributions to honor loved ones who have passed away. 

Deacons at F.C.C. are pleased to be able to again sponsor this as an in-person event.  It will take place on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 11 am to 1 pm in the Church’s DeWolf Room.  Representatives from eight nonprofit 501c3 organizations will be present to share information about their missions and the work they do in meeting a diversity of community needs in the areas of:  health, service, education, culture, hunger action, and human betterment.  

The Deacons of First Congregational Church hope that you will consider donating as generously as possible, as part of your holiday gift giving!  If you are unable to attend this event, donations in the form of a check may be sent to the church office and will be forwarded to the organization(s) that you wish to support!

This year’s participating organizations are:

The Tomorrow Fund provides financial and emotional support to children with cancer and their families, from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment and beyond.

The Bristol Animal Shelter provides for the care of sick, injured, abused, abandoned and homeless animals until they find their forever homes.  

The East Bay Food Pantry provides food and programs with a focus on health and nutrition for children, families, seniors and disabled individuals.

Heifer International helps families in over 125 countries achieve self-reliance as they lift themselves out of poverty and hunger when gifted with livestock, water pumps or trees.

 The Matthew Patton Foundation provides education and advocacy towards improving mental health services and early intervention for the prevention of suicide in the military.

S.H.A.R.E. designs, builds and adapts assistive technology that is provided free of charge to people with disabilities, especially those who are unable to communicate independently. 

R.E.S.T. provides resources, education and support to family members whose loved ones are struggling with Substance Use Disorder. 

The Community String Project provides string instrument instruction to children, youth, and adults; it is tuition free for needy youth and at a reduced cost for low income individuals.

The First Congregational Church of Bristol, RI has again scheduled five days of food and fun. The FoodFest will consist of five COVID-safe events. Dinners will be pre-ordered and available for pick up.
 
Saturday, November 20: Take Out Lobster Rolls (Pre-Order). Orders will need to be placed by Nov 16. As part of this event, FCC will also sponsor a Bake Sale. Homemade pies, cakes, and other novelties will be available for pre-order. Bake Sale orders will need to be placed by Nov 13. MiniBazaar Crafts will be available for your purchasing pleasure.

Bristol’s Stone Church Coffee House at the First Congregational Church welcomes The Clements Brothers on November 13^th.

Identical twins Charles and George Clements are from the Boston area. They’ve been playing and writing music together for as long as they can remember and ‘The Clements Brothers’ marks their first duo project together.

With roots, rock, bluegrass, jazz, and classical influences, George (on guitar) and Charles (on bass) aim to capture their singer-songwriter sensibilities in a unique blended voice, at once enthralling and intimate, groovy and serene.  The core of the Clements Brothers is the fusion of their unique musical journeys into a music all its own, filled with vocal harmonies, instrumental virtuosity, and a genuine love of song.

For nearly 10 years, the brothers performed with the modern acoustic group, The Lonely Heartstring Band, of which they were the founding members. They went solo after the band disbanded in 2019. The brothers collaborated on their album, “Into the Day.”

Bristol’s Stone Coffee House is an affordable, family-oriented, handicap-accessible musical venue. Doors open at 6:45PM and the show starts at 7:30PM. Seating is limited and reservations are recommended. Light refreshments will be available for purchase. Tickets are $20.00 per person (students are half price; children 5 and under are free). Bristol’s Stone Church Coffee House welcomes Dirty Cello to our stage on October 23rd. From China to Italy, Dirty Cello brings the world a high energy and unique spin on blues and bluegrass. Led by vivacious cross-over cellist, Rebecca Roudman, Dirty Cello is cello like you’ve never heard before. From down home blues with a wailing cello to virtuosic stompin’ bluegrass, Dirty Cello is a band that gets your heart thumping and your toes tapping!

Rebecca Roudman is a classical string player by day, and rocks out with Dirty Cello by night and has used her improvisation skills to rock out with the likes of Carlos Santana, Isaac Hayes and hip hop bands like Deltron 3030. Rebecca will be joined on stage by guitarist, Jason Eckl; Alex Farrell on bass; and Jeff Wheeler on drums.

“When lead guitar is replaced by the sound of hot licks on a cello, blues, rock and bluegrass rise to a new dimension. Dirty Cello — from San Francisco, CA — makes its style of string music to inspire audiences to swing, sway and dance.” Nick Diamantides, Ashland Daily Tidings.

On Sunday, October 17th, First Congregational Church will hold its annual “Church Has Left the Building” event, a day in which parishioners “take church out of the building” by participating in service projects in place of worship. Due to on-going COVID safety concerns, this year’s projects will take place outdoors and will include trash clean-up along streets in the vicinity of the church, and between High and Thames Streets; in Rockwell and Independence Parks; and near the bike path.

This event is open to all members and friends of the church, and families are encouraged to attend! Participants are asked to gather at the church at 10:00 a.m., at which time CHLTB orange vests, disposable gloves and garbage bags will be distributed.

Sunday, September 12^th, 2021 at 10:00AM.

It’s the kick-off event for our FCC Sunday School Year! We can’t wait to see all of our FCC Children and Families back again, especially after such a long time apart. There will be an intergenerational worship service for all to enjoy, where all of the teachers will be inducted. This will be followed by an All-Church Picnic with sub sandwiches, drinks, cake and more!

Families with children will soon receive a Sunday School registration form in the mail. Please fill it out and bring it with you on Rally Day.

After almost fifteen months of forced separation, we are happy to announce the resumption of in-person worship. After considerable thought and planning, the “Regathering Subcommittee” has set the target date of Sunday, June 6 to resume worship in person.

 Of course, the safety of our church family is our primary concern and safety protocols in effect at that time will be observed. This is how the Committee envisions regathering:

• Services will be held outdoors as the weather permits. In case of inclement weather, we will gather in the DeWolf Chapel.
• Attendees will be required to wear a mask and socially distance.
• Attendees will be allowed to sing while wearing masks.
• As has been the practice in the past the choir will not sing during the summer months.
• As a courtesy to those who cannot attend, the services will be live-streamed.

We are looking forward to worshiping with our church family in person once again. We will share more details as the regathering date approaches.
